Many of us have multiple cloud storage accounts with several services like Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, etc. Cloud storage is a great invention, and it makes keeping things safe and having access to them from just about anywhere spectacularly easy. But the more cloud accounts you have, the more work it takes to keep up with them. What if you could manage all your cloud drives from one simple interface? That's what MultCloud is all about and in this article we are going to reviewthis service for you.
NOTE: The name of the service is not, as it would first appear, "multi-cloud," but "mult-cloud." Somewhat confusing and easy to mistype.
How To Set Up Your Account With MultCloud
MultCloud is a web based app--no other interface available right now. Start by going to the MultCloud main page. Note that it's a secure login, in case you're concerned about security. Click on Create an Account to begin.
You'll get a form to type in your chosen username, email and password. Be sure to choose a secure password, and don't use the same one you use for any other cloud storage account. If you need help with this, we've got just the thing for you: Password Security: Turn your dumb habits into geek habits.
Once you've filled in that information and clicked Create Account, you'll be sent an email with the link to confirm your subscription. Click the link and you're good to go.
You may notice that English is not the primary language of the people who created MultCloud and that's evident in many interactions that you will have with this service. :)
OK, I'm In, What Next?
From the main screen, click on Add Cloud Drives.
You'll be presented with a list of options. Click on the cloud service you want to add, and then click Next. You can only choose one service at a time. As you can see, the services you can link to right now are Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive, Amazon S3, SugarSync, Box, Copy, WebDev, FTP, CloudMe, Cubby, MyDrive, WEB.DE, Yandex, HiDrive and BailDu.
Here we have chosen OneDrive. This is what comes next.
Click on Add OneDrive Account and you'll be taken to a secure Microsoft page that authorizes MultCloud access to your OneDrive account.
After you've typed in your account username and password you'll get another chance to change your mind about it.
When you've added your account, you'll see a list of files and folders. On the left, you'll also see a link to add more cloud accounts. Continue adding as many as you want.
How To Connect Multiple Cloud Storage Accounts
Once you've connected the accounts, you can browse each one from its link in the left sidebar. To transfer files from one cloud drive to another, simply drag and drop from the file list to the other cloud drive. Here we show dragging a file from Google Drive into OneDrive.
MultCloud: Cautions And Limitations
Linking your cloud accounts is very easy. However, if you decide that you no longer want to have the accounts linked through MultCloud, you will have to go to each cloud service individually and revoke MultCloud's access. You can right-click on the name of a drive in the sidebar and choose Remove, but that just removes the name of the drive from the list. It does not revoke the access MultCloud has to your cloud storageaccount.
The biggest limitation, though, is that MultCloud is just a file manager. You can move files around, you can search for a particular file across all drives, and you can upload files to a selected drive, but you can't view or edit them. So if you want to look at your files or edit them once they've been transferred, you'll have to go to the individual cloud drives anyway.
The Verdict: Test First
MultCloud makes it very easy to move files from one cloud drive to another, and its interface is well designed and easy to understand. Adding drives from multiple cloud storage accounts is simple but removing access to those drives means navigating to each account and following the procedure for denying access to MultCloud. And there's not much you can do with your cloud storage files besides moving them around.
The service will work best for people who just want to do some light housekeeping and file maintenance with their cloud accounts from one convenient interface. Still, since it is free and easy to use, it's worth checking out to see if it will suit your needs. We hope that the service will be expanded in the future to make it truly useful.
